Vintage 1940s Horsehide Leather Jacket – Hand-Painted WWII USAAF Nose Art

Based on its construction and period details, this jacket is believed to have been produced by Sears Hercules or Windward, both respected makers of quality leather jackets during this era.

The jacket has been carefully restored while preserving its genuine vintage character. The original zipper was damaged when I acquired it and was replaced with a period-correct 1940s Crown zipper, the same style of zipper found on many American military jackets of the period. The original knit cuffs and waistband were also heavily worn and have been replaced, making the jacket comfortable and wearable again while maintaining its period appearance.

The horsehide leather has developed a beautiful natural patina over the decades, with the character and variation that can only come from genuine age and wear. The leather remains solid, with no holes and no unpleasant odors.

The centerpiece of the jacket is the original hand-painted artwork. The chest features the insignia of the 322nd Bombardment Group, accompanied by the classic U.S. Army Air Forces shoulder insignia, inspired by the personalized flight jackets worn by American bomber crews during WWII.

This is a unique combination of vintage American leather, WWII aviation history, and hand-painted artwork—ideal for a collector, WWII aviation enthusiast, or anyone who appreciates the tradition of painted wartime-style flight jackets.
